The
crystalline lens
must remain transparent in order to properly focus and transmit
light to the back of the eye. A
cataract
is a cloudy area that develops on the lens of the eye, blocking
light to the back of the eye, resulting in changes in one's
vision. These changes can include cloudy, fuzzy or filmy vision,
changes in the way you see colors, increased glare from
headlights, lamps or the sun, frequent changes in your eyeglass
prescription, and double vision.
Periodic eye examinations can detect the presence of
cataracts. Initially, early cataracts can be treated with
stronger spectacles to improve your vision. However, this
improvement may be temporary if the cataract progresses with
time.
Cataracts can be surgically removed with a brief, outpatient
procedure, once the loss of vision adversely affects your
activities. Read:Cataract
surgery reduces auto accidents.
Cataract Surgery involves the removal of the cataract (opacified
crystalline lens of the eye) and implantation of an artificial
intraocular lens. As a secondary benefit of this surgery, some
of our patients are also able to reduce or eliminate their
dependence on corrective lenses.

Our
team of physicians together with the staff at our facility, East
Columbus Surgery Center

offer you vast experience in performing cataract surgery.
You can be assured that you or your family member will receive
unsurpassed care by the very best in the field. If you suspect

Presbyopia Intraocular Lenses – reduce or
eliminate the need for bifocals

Crystalens ® |
Rezoom ® |
Restor ® |
Toric Intraocular Lenses
– reduce pre-existing astigmatism, may reduce need for
corrective lenses. Bifocals or reading glasses may still be
required. Pre-existing astigmatism can also be reduced at the
time of cataract surgery with
astigmatic keratotomy.

Staar® toric |
Alcon® toric |
Aspheric Intraocular Lens
– reduce spherical aberration and improve optics in low light
conditions. Reaction time is often reduced when driving at night
with these intraocular lenses. In a simulated night driving
study, the TECNIS® aspheric IOL provided an additional 45 feet
of identification distance at 55 mph as compared to a
conventional IOL.
Iris Reconstructive Intraocular
Lens
–
necessary in rare cases where there is an absence of the iris
due to trauma or disease.
